John P. Leahy (Bubbie), age 85, of Fairfield, the retired Chief Fiscal Officer for the Town of Fairfield, and beloved husband of Patricia Leahy, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, January 10, 2023. Born in Bridgeport, the son of the late John D. Leahy and Genevieve Flanagan Leahy, he had been a lifelong Fairfield resident. John graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas School, Fairfield College Preparatory School and the College of the Holy Cross. John retired after 30-plus years as Chief Fiscal Officer for Fairfield, where he was well respected and admired. After retirement, he served as a financial consultant for several municipalities in the region. John loved sports and was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers. He played amateur softball and was inducted into the CT Softball Hall of Fame. John also enjoyed playing golf with his many buddies at the H. Smith Richardson Golf Course.
In addition to his loving wife of 46 years, Pat, he will be sadly missed by two children, Mary Sue Baricko of Stratford and Atty. Christopher Vaugh of Fairfield; four beloved grandchildren, Abigail Baricko, John Baricko, Katherine Vaugh, and Patrick Baricko; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Genevieve (Dolly) Durso and Ursula Pritchard; a daughter-in-law, Ileana Vaugh, and his beloved dogs, Cooper and Polly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Interment will be held privately. Friends may call Monday from 4-8 p.m. in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 South Benson Road, Fairfield.
