George Donald "Don" Peterson

George Donald “Don” Peterson, 90, of Fairfield passed away peacefully on April 23, 2022. He was the loving companion of Joan Murchie for 45 years. Don as he was known for the majority of his life was born May 11, 1931 in Fairfield to the late Carl and Helfrid Svard Peterson.

As a young man, Don joined the US Navy, upon returning home, he worked in the electronic industry. He worked for some time at Bullards, and Track Electronics. Never one to sit still, Don also worked  as a driver for Rudy’s Limousine and even as an insurance agent. Don was a self taught pianist,  playing christmas songs for the family,  as well as publicly performing at many places, including the Fairfield Country Club. He may be best known however, for his work in the family Peterson Nurseries.  Don loved a good joke and was a master of the pun. His greatest enjoyment came from being with his family and friends.

Don is survived by Joan Murchie, who has described their relationship as a “love affair from a fairytale”. He is also survived by his son George and his family of Florida, and also the Bohin and Richard families. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Carl.

A Funeral Service with Military Honors will be conducted in the Spear-Miller Funeral Home, 39 S. Benson Rd, Fairfield on Thursday April 28 at 10AM. Interment will follow at Kings Highway Cemetery in Milford. Friends and family may visit on Wednesday April 27 from 4-6 PM. Because Don loved animals so much, in lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society.   Share an online condolence at www.spearfuneralhome.com
