Beverly T. (Tunstall) Shavinsky

Beverly T. Shavinsky, age 86, of Fairfield, formerly of Jackson, NJ, beloved wife of the late Emory Shavinsky, Jr.,  passed away peacefully, Sunday, November 7, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.  Born in New Bedford, MA on July 27, 1935, the daughter of the late Alvin “Dutch” and Hilda May Tunstall, she graduated from Fairhaven High School in 1953.  Beverly graduated from Bridgewater State University in 1957 with a degree in Education.  She began her elementary school teaching career in Fairhaven, MA and married Emory in 1961.  Beverly relocated to Portsmouth, VA due to her husband’s Navy assignment and eventually moved to Jackson, NJ where she continued her teaching career until her retirement in 1995.  Beverly was a member of the Rainbow Girls in Fairhaven, MA, volunteered at the Millicent Library and Trinity Lutheran Church in Fairhaven, was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star chapter 221 in Sandwich, MA and  the Fairhaven Benevolent Association. She enjoyed painting and theater production, but above all else delighted in time spent with her family.  She will be sadly missed by her two beloved children, Melinda (Shavinsky) Powlishen of Fairfield CT; John Shavinsky and his wife Lynn (Smatsky) Shavinsky of Fairfield, CT; four cherished grandchildren, Kelly and Sarah Powlishen and Michael and Andrew Shavinsky.  In addition to her husband, Emory, she was predeceased by her beloved son-in-law, Barry Powlishen.  A memorial service will be held Monday, November 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 16 Temple Place, Fairhaven, MA.  A committal service will immediately follow in Riverside Cemetery, 274 Main Street, Fairhaven, MA. Donations, in lieu of flowers, can be made to the Beverly Tunstall Shavinsky Memorial Scholarship Fund, 235 Fairmount Terrace, Fairfield, CT 06825.  The scholarship will be provided to a Fairhaven HS student through the Fairhaven Dollars for Scholars program each spring.
